When I started my firm
I wanted Flexibility and Growth
with Predictable Revenue.
I wanted it all. I thought if I was working hard I would get it all.
However, I learned quickly:
I didn’t know how to find good clients
I had no systems to increase efficiency
I was working like crazy and making very little profit
I was stressed out and frustrated
It was 2017 and I had just launched my CPA firm.
I had just moved across the country and was starting to build my client base.
Finding clients was hard.
I purposely had no office, but I didn’t have an online marketing plan either.
I accepted every type of client because I needed the work.
My systems were made up of off the shelf apps that worked together – sort of.
I knew there was a better way:
There has to be a better, faster way to run my firm without working like crazy.
So, I built a plan.
I spent a lot of time figuring out how to create an incredible experience for my clients.
I made my firm entirely accessible from any mobile device.
I tried to automate every part of my business.
I built out back office support structures and became a key part of my clients’ businesses.
My recurring revenue per client increased significantly.
I had consistent, predictable monthly revenue.
In 2021, four years after starting from scratch, I sold my firm.
After I listed my firm, there were over 50 buyers from all over the continent that expressed interest in purchasing the firm.
I was able to sell with a much higher multiple of revenue than regular accounting firms.
It was clear that my firm:
Allowed me a lot of flexible and profit while I operated it
Was an incredibly valuable business when it came to selling
Was the blueprint to run a highly scalable and profitable firm
